The city of Los Angeles is pulling out all of the stops to keep Zack Greinke with the Dodgers

One of the biggest free agents in the 2015 MLB offseason is pitcher Zack Greinke.

Greinke recently decided to opt out of his contract with the Dodgers, and that instantly made him the best player on the free agent market. In 2015, Greinke had an amazing season, as he totaled a 19-3 record, 1.99 ERA, 0.84 WHIP, and 200 strikeouts.

The Dodgers have plenty of money and aren’t shy about spending that money, as it will be very likely that Greinke remains in a Dodgers uniform. With a number of teams surely interested in the services of Greinke, the Dodgers are also getting some help in their recruiting pitch to keep Greinke in Los Angeles.

Los Angeles Metro has sweetened the pot if Greinke re-signs with the Dodgers as they offered him a free transit card for life if he comes back.

The Dodgers have been very successful in recent years and the pitching of Greinke has been a major reason for that. In three seasons with the Dodgers, Greinke has totaled a ridiculous 51-15 record with an ERA of 2.30.

It is very important for the Dodgers to re-sign Greinke, as the combination of  Clayton Kershaw and him at the top of their rotation has made them one of the best teams in the National League. There is some risk to re-signing Greinke to a long-term deal, as he is 32-years-old, which makes the years that he is going to be given a possible issue. Greinke does have a lot of leverage in free agency, as there will be a good number of teams that have the money and the need for a true ace to headline their pitching staffs.

The offer by Los Angeles Metro is very nice for Greinke, but with the contract he will be getting this offseason, he can probably afford to pay the bus fee.
