With basically an infinite payroll, the Dodgers are going to be involved in just about any bidding war for a marquee free agent. Los Angeles will certainly at least kick the tires on Price, and it wouldn’t surprise anybody if he ended up there by next spring.

Much like the Cubs, Los Angeles may find themselves in a position where its top of the rotation isn’t exactly a weakness. Clayton Kershaw and Zack Greinke were the best one-two combination in baseball this season, and the Dodgers don’t necessarily need another ace to win the World Series.

However, the situation could change after Greinke opted out of the three years and $71 million remaining on his contract. The Dodgers could certainly re-sign Greinke – and they may prefer a familiar face over a new free agent – but his status is up in the air for the moment.

If the Dodgers feel like Greinke is headed elsewhere, expect them to be heavily in on Price. Los Angeles could offer the biggest contract of any potential suitor, and Price would have a chance to go to a club that is set up to be in contention for the duration of his tenure there.

Despite the huge payroll and numerous moves at the deadline, Los Angeles had some trouble getting the back of its rotation in order this season, as the only other reliable starter was Brett Anderson. Even if Greinke stays, bringing in Price could help fix that and make the Dodgers the team to beat next season and beyond.
