The Detroit Lions have cleaned house in their front office after firing many of their coaches.

The Detroit Lions have hit rock bottom once again, and they made more drastic changes following a 45-10 blowout loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. General manager Martin Mayhew and president Tom Lewand have both been fired as a result of the Lions’ 1-7 start. SportsCenter confirmed the Lions’ decision to continue cleaning house.

Lions head coach Jim Caldwell survived once again, but he may very well be next if the Lions continue to struggle and finish with one of the worst records in the NFL. The Lions have been a colossal disappointment since finishing 11-5 and making it to the playoffs last season. Although the Green Bay Packers are heavily favored to win the NFC North, the Lions were considered a popular pick to make it back to the playoffs.

Although he has been fired, Mayhew experienced some success in his stint as the Lions’ general manager. He drafted impact players such as defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh and linebacker DeAndre Levy. However, he has made a lot of picks that did not pan out such as running back Mikel Leshoure and wide receivers Ryan Broyles and Titus Young.

The rest of Mayhew’s draft picks have failed to make an impact for the Lions, so his demise became inevitable. It remains to be seen whether the Lions can overcome a difficult remaining schedule, which includes two games against the Packers and games against the Oakland Raiders and St. Louis Rams.
