Following an impressive start to the season for the Oklahoma City dynamic duo, Kevin Durant calls Russell Westbrook “our best player” in post game interview

Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook have made a strong case for being one of the best dynamic duos in the history of the National Basketball Association. Time and time again, the two have put up mind boggling statistics while still being able to co-exist together on one floor. That has undoubtedly been the key to such a healthy relationship in the Oklahoma City Thunder locker room the past few seasons.

Scoring points in bunches has always been Durant and Westbrook’s forte. Kevin is a four-time scoring champion, meanwhile Russell has averaged at least 21 points per game for the past 5 seasons. This year has certainly been no different. In the first 5 games of the NBA season, the Oklahoma City duo has combined for a total of 57.8 points per game. The peak performance in this early going for both players certainly came against the Orlando Magic when they combined for a total of 91 points. Russell Westbrook with 48 meanwhile Kevin Durant contributed 43. To put things into perspective, that same exact night the entire Philadelphia 76ers roster managed to put up 71 points as they were defeated by the Utah Jazz. Since 1986 only 3 other games have been played where two teammates have both scored 40+ points in the same game.

With a record of 3-2, the Oklahoma City Thunder have certainly set their sights on a deep playoff run this year as long as their two centre pieces stay healthy. But other than health, the ability for two superstars to coexist on the floor together as one without any selfish play is something rarely seen in the NBA. Often it is one  player having to give up something in order for this to happen. Think Wade and LeBron in Miami or Shaq and Kobe back in L.A, but with Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook the two are able to fully play in their maximum potential while still doing it together.

The respect and admiration these two teammates and friends have for each other can be seen on as well as off the court. Following a tough loss against the Toronto Raptors on Wednesday Kevin Durant had this to say about the game and his team’s point guard, Russell Westbrook:

It is professionalism and appreciation such as this which truly builds team chemistry. Not long ago, Russell Westbrook had this to say about his teammate Kevin Durant.

With such a long NBA season ahead, it is pure joy for not only Oklahoma City Thunder fans but for fans of the sport of basketball in general to be able to witness such unity and greatness between two of the best players in the league today.
