Kobe Bryant’s shooting woes set to NBA Jam (Video)

The Cauldron posted a video inspired by NBA Jam on Wednesday that pokes fun at Kobe Bryant’s poor shooting to begin the 2015-2016 season.
The Los Angeles Lakers are winless in the team’s first four games and veteran star Kobe Bryant is off to one of his worst starts in his professional career. Bryant is shooting an atrocious 32.3% from the field, while chucking up 15.5 shots per game. While this abysmal start makes diehard Lakers fans cringe, perhaps there is some schadenfreude in the team’s pathetic start.
Sports Illustrated’s The Cauldron released a video on Wednesday that pokes fun at Kobe’s shooting struggles.
The video shows a series of Bryant’s misses while overlaying music and a familiar visual interface from the 1993 arcade classic NBA Jam. The announcer makes comments about Bryant’s misses, such as “he should retire” after he front rims a shot.
While many viewers might find this video hilarious (sorry Lakers fans), Bryant’s decline is tragic. After the Lakers fell to the Dallas Mavericks on Monday, Kobe was none too happy about his performance. “I freaking suck,” said a melancholic Bryant.
Injuries have led to Bryant’s fall from stardom. In the past two years Bryant has torn his Achilles tendon, suffered a lateral tibial plateau fracture, and most recently tore his rotator cuff in January of 2015. These injuries have prevented the 38-year-old Bryant from regaining his All-Star form, leaving him a shade of his former self.
Bryant’s poor start to the season is not pretty, but perhaps we all can find some humor in this clever and well-made video by The Cauldron.
