Luis Suarez thriving with superstar Neymar
Luis Suarez says he is loving his partnership with superstar Neymar as the pair continue to tear defenses to shreds for Barcelona in the absence of Lionel Messi
Missing Lionel Messi seems like less and less of a problem for Barcelona as the strike partnership of Luis Suarez and Neymar has continued to soar since Messi went from the pitch to the treatment room. Not only have Suarez and Neymar combined to score Barca’s last 14 goals in La Liga, but they have scored 17 of 20 goals in all competitions since Messi’s injury. Just as important as the numbers are the way in which these goals are scored; Barcelona supporters expect to see goals that highlight creativity, beautiful team play and the overall Barcelona style. Neymar and Suarez’s recent performances have exemplified exactly that, and the confidence is flowing from the two world beaters, specifically Suarez,
“If you play next to a footballer of the great quality of ‘Ney’ then, obviously, you enjoy the games and the partnership a great deal more. Beyond winning it’s obviously very satisfying to help the team with assists and goals.” Via Sky Sports News
While Neymar had been at Barcelona prior to Suarez’s arrival and has had an extra year of playing with the likes of Messi, Iniesta and Busquets, Suarez is only now two seasons removed from playing with the likes of Jordan Henderson, Lucas Levia and Daniel Sturridge. This is so important to note because although Suarez had world-class ability before moving to the Spanish club, until he was paired with other players of his calibre he was not able to reach his full potential. It was clear from his first season at the Catalan club he had all the talent to thrive with Messi and Neymar; however some people attributed that to Messi as he is considered the best player of all time.
Thus, this period of Messi being out injured has given Suarez and Neymar as well another chance to terrorize defenses and showcase to the world just have devastating they can be.
Suarez went on to say,
“Beyond the need to perform it’s both enjoyable and it makes you happy when you are playing and winning for the club you always wanted to be with,We’re in a good moment as a team and that adds to my happiness.” Via Sky Sports News
With these two South American starts playing this way, even without Messi, it would be tough for any team in the world to stop Barcelona at the moment.
