Baltimore Orioles

The Orioles have a decent shot at re-signing Chris Davis. Should they? That’s a discussion that’s for a different article. Will they? They just might. Orioles owner Peter Angelos has expressed interest in re-signing Davis. There are two factors that could work in the Orioles favor.

The first factor is that Davis seems comfortable in Baltimore. He enjoys playing in the city of Baltimore, where he is appreciated and wanted by not just the team, but the fans as well. Davis came to Baltimore as a part of the deal that sent Koji Uehara to the Texas Rangers. The Orioles gave Davis the chance that he never got in Texas and believed in him. Davis clearly enjoys playing for Buck Showalter and the Orioles. That could tilt the scales in the Orioles favor.

The next factor is that the Orioles won’t have to worry about outbidding the Yankees or Red Sox. The Yankees and Red Sox (among other teams) have been a huge reason why the Orioles have trouble attracting quality free agents. The big market teams have something that the Orioles don’t: a huge budget. Big market teams will likely stay out of the Chris Davis bidding war. That clearly works in the Orioles favor.

A return to Baltimore isn’t likely for Davis, but don’t rule it out.
