According to reports, the Dallas Mavericks and Rick Carlisle have agreed on a five-year extension worth $35 million.

Rick Carlisle has proven over his career as a coach in the NBA, that he’s one of the best in the league and is great at setting his team up to play competitive basketball, even if the roster doesn’t always warrant it.

The Mavericks might have had a whirlwind off-season that left many believing they will have a big fall, but Carlisle has his veteran-heavy roster playing hard regardless and for his efforts, is being rewarded with a hefty contract extension that will keep him with the franchise for quite some time.

According to Marc Stein, Carlisle and the Mavericks agreed on an extension that will pay him $35 million over the next five years.

The new deal will reportedly carry out until the 2021-2022 season according to Stein.

There’s no arguing that Carlisle has earned this deal. He’s one of the best tacticians in the league and makes great adjustments out of timeouts. His great coaching helped lead the Mavericks to their first NBA Championship and since the team has been a competitive force in the NBA.

Although the current Mavericks are older and not the same team on a level with other Western Conference contenders, Carlisle is rightfully being rewarded for his work at head coach.

The Mavericks aren’t far from the days of playing without Dirk Nowitzki, who is getting older in age, but the good news is that the transition of the franchise should be a lot easy with Carlisle staying at the helm to help lead the Mavericks going forward.

He’s also got a nice new contract to go with that future and some stability too.
