The Pittsburgh Steelers are hoping to fuel their return game with their newest addition to the roster.

No longer will Mike Tomlin try to trip Jacoby Jones as he returns a kick. Now, he will be hoping that Jones takes it all the way to the house.

According to Jason La Canfora, the Pittsburgh Steelers have claimed Jones off waivers from the San Diego Chargers.

The Steelers have been looking for someone to make the big play at returning kicks this season and giving the offense some room to work with. They had previously had Dri Archer out there returning kicks, but now it appears they’re going to give Jones a look out there.

It appears that the Steelers have also released Archer as a result of the Jones’ signing.

Jones is no stranger to flipping a game with his return skills and the Steelers are in a spot where they need something to fuel the fire. They’ve been dealing with injuries all season and are desperate to find some sort of spark this late in the season as they try to stay in the playoff race.

It remains to be seen whether or not the Steelers try to incorporate him in at receiver or not, but he is absolutely another option there for Pittsburgh, as he is another guy with speed that can stretch the field.

The release of Jones by the Chargers wasn’t much of a surprise as he was strictly a return man and was inactive for a few of their games. Against Baltimore on Sunday, he made a critical error when he let a ball bounce to the three-yard line late in the game.

With terrible field position, the offense couldn’t convert and the Ravens had plenty of room to kick the winning field goal. With the Chargers now facing a down year, the team cut ties with Jones and moved on.

The good news for Jones, is that he will be part of a roster that has a chance to compete for a spot in the playoffs if they don’t lose any more guys.

That’s a big if, however.
