Golden State Warriors’ Stephen Curry says the team is better than they were last year
Stephen Curry, the reigning MVP of the NBA, is seldom wrong. Watching Golden State’s #30 repeatedly launch three pointer after three pointer often makes us stop to ponder whether we are in fact watching live television or our little brother playing NBA 2k16.
Stephen Curry looks fully capable of repeating as MVP, but what is even more impressive to fans is that the Golden State Warriors are playing better than they ever have.
“We’re better than we were last year,” Curry said in a post-game press conference. “I think we’re just more composed. We get off to better starts.”
The Golden State Warriors have begun their NBA championship defending campaign by getting off to an incredible 5-0 start. A 50 point win against the Memphis Grizzlies was one of the only 35 times in NBA history where one team has beaten another by a margin of 50 points, and was Memphis’ worst loss ever. Stephen Curry had 30 points that game.
The Warriors did this just one game after defeating their 2015 first round playoff opponents, the New Orleans Pelicans by 14. Stephen Curry had 53 points that game. Yesterday, the Golden State Warriors earned a hard-fought victory against undefeated rivals Los Angeles Clippers. Stephen Curry had 31 points.
Through the first five games of the NBA season, Stephen Curry has amassed a total of 179 points, 35.8 points per game. No other player in the history of basketball has had more points to start the season except Michael Jordan. The Golden State Warriors remain the only team in the Western Conference to be undefeated through the first five games of the season.
The Warriors are undoubtedly the best team in the National Basketball Association today, but a case can be made of this team being the best in history. The Warriors are currently shooting 40.9% from the three point line and have the best offensive efficiency in the league at 114.2 with the next best team a whopping 6.5 points behind. The Warriors are first in assists, true shooting and defensive efficiency as well.
The Golden State Warriors take on the Denver Nuggets at home tomorrow and will look to start the season 6-0 as they continue to chase the illustrious 70 win mark.
