After being given a “breather” by head coach Jim Tomsula, San Francisco 49ers quarterback, Colin Kaepernick, insists he is not out of breath.

The Colin Kaepernick-era seems like it is destined to be over soon in the bay area.

Before the San Francisco 49ers take on the Atlanta Falcons at home on Sunday, Jim Tomsula decided to give his young quarterback a “breather” and start former first-round pick, Blaine Gabbert, instead.

It hasn’t been an easy season for Kaepernick, as he has struggled with accuracy issues and putting points on the board for his team. When he was surrounded by reporters after practice on Friday, Kaepernick was asked about his thoughts on getting a “breather” from his head coach Jim Tomsula.

Kaepernick didn’t seem too enthused by the notion of a breather.

Kaepernick immediately insists that he is not out of breath. When asked about pressure, Kaepernick said that he doesn’t believe in pressure either. He says he’s played full seasons before and that he’s not incapable of going through things.

Certainly Kaepernick is trying his hardest as a competitor to get back out on the field for the 49ers. Should Gabbert come in and really make a mess out of things, it’s likely that he will be back out there sooner rather than later.

How far his future extends in San Francisco is a question for another day.
