DeMarcus Cousins of the Sacramento Kings will likely miss the next two games, as he is dealing with an Achilles’ strain.

According to Jason Jones of the Sacramento Bee, Sacramento Kings center DeMarcus Cousins will likely miss the club’s next two games while he attempts to get back to good from an Achilles’ strain. Though the Sacramento Kings are 1-4, it is imperative that the All-Star big man stay healthy this season in the long-term if the Kings want to end their 10-year playoff drought.

Cousins first strained his Achilles’ on Halloween against the Los Angeles Clippers, a team that Cousins truly hates, honestly. The Clippers do play a physical brand of basketball down low with power forward Blake Griffin and center DeAndre Jordan.

Since it is a big divisional rivalry between the Kings and Clippers, it’s only natural that Cousins may have gotten a little too amped up in this game and mildly hurt himself. Cousins went on to miss the Kings’ next two games both losses to the Memphis Grizzlies and to their divisional foe in the Phoenix Suns.

Not playing this weekend means that the Sacramento Kings will have to hold their own with DeMarcus Cousins against Western Conference juggernauts in the Houston Rockets and the defending NBA Champions in the Golden State Warriors.

Houston hasn’t looked spectacular in the first two weeks, but have the pieces down low to make life difficult for a Kings team without Cousins in the mix. Golden State is an electric outside shooting team, playing with a “nobody believes in us” chip on their shoulder, despite winning it all in 2014-15. Given that the Kings were a lousy perimeter defensive team in 2014-15, they probably won’t beat their Pacific Division rival either.

Even if the Sacramento Kings start the year off at 1-6, they do have the pieces in place to make a potential push for the eighth, possibly seventh seed in the NBA’s Western Conference. For that to come to fruition, it stands and ends with a healthy DeMarcus Cousins. Should the Kings miss him for extended time, they won’t stand a chance.
