Every soccer team on the planet dreams about the opportunity to sign a player like Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo. He will not only go down as one of the greatest of all time for his ability to perform on the pitch, but he is also one of the most popular athletes around the globe.
Recently, there has been a lot of speculation about Ronaldo’s future and whether he plans on staying at the Santiago Bernabeu for the rest of his career. Rumors have linked him with a possible return to Manchester United or a big money transfer to Paris St-Germain.
In an interview with FHM magazine, the three-time Ballon d’Or winner and 2008 World Player of the Year, discussed the possibility of one day leaving Madrid, but not for Manchester or Paris.
"“I’m definitely thinking about playing in the United States for a year. I’ve always said that playing and living there is possible.”"
While there had been previous talk that Ronaldo may one day play in MLS towards the end of his career, his agent, Jorge Mendes, recently came out and said that he believes the Portuguese international would remain with Real Madrid for the rest of his career.
"“There is lots of speculation and a new story every day. But if you ask me, I would say Cristiano will finish his career with Real Madrid and be there for many, many years.”"
However, fans of the beautiful game in North America have to be excited about the possibility of Ronaldo coming to MLS one day. There are a handful of franchises in the league that have already proven they are willing to spend big bucks in order to attract top talent, and any team interested in Ronaldo’s services will likely have to break the bank to sign the 30-year-old.
Regardless of whether Ronaldo actually ends up coming to MLS one day or not, it has to be seen as a positive sign that the league continues to be discussed by some of the game’s biggest stars.
