No. 9 Iowa Hawkeyes vs. Indiana Hoosiers
If you’ve been keeping up with college football this season, you would know by now that the Iowa Hawkeyes are the surprise team in college football and they have a chance to pull off a huge upset — even if it won’t be known as that now that they’re ranked in the top 10 — against either Michigan State or Ohio State in the Big Ten title game.
C.J. Beathard has been playing out of his mind this season, filling in for Jake Rudock who transferred to Michigan in the offseason. Beathard hasn’t been an All-American, or All-Big Ten performer, for that matter, but he has been rock solid, completing 60 percent of his passes for 1,598 yards, nine touchdowns and three interceptions. His solid play, coupled with great defense and a nice run game has led to a hot 8-0 start.
Remember when Indiana was on the verge of upsetting No. 1 Ohio State at home in the first Big Ten game of the season for both teams? It took a last-second heave to the end zone, broken up by OSU defenders, to put a cap on that one as the then 4-0 Hoosiers suffered their first loss of the year. Well, it’s been all downhill since.
Indiana has lost four straight games by a combined 58 points and the defense has been at the center of the struggles, allowing the second-most passing yards per game in the nation. Nate Sudfeld and Jordan Howard are a deadly quarterback-running back combo — when healthy. Ricky Jones is no slouch, either, as he has 669 yards and five touchdowns on 37 catches.
