Karl-Anthony Towns is stepping up as a leader for the Timberwolves, blocking a shot from Derrick Rose that helped smother the Bulls.

When the Minnesota Timberwolves drafted Karl-Anthony Towns with the first pick in this past year’s draft, there was the expectation that he would get mentored by Kevin Garnett and eventually fit into a big role with the team. But that timeline has been expedited a little, as Towns is already looking every bit the star he’s expected to become.

Towns and the Wolves went to overtime on Saturday in Chicago against the Bulls, but it was their defensive prowess that stole the show. For the first time in the franchise’s history, the Bulls were shutout in overtime as the Wolves dominated on both ends of the court.

Karl-Anthony Towns led the way there, blocking a Derrick Rose shot that might have helped get the Bulls back in the game.

Towns is budding into a superstar in his first year with the Wolves — actually his first week with the team. The former Kentucky star has fit like a glove in Minnesota, stepping up as a leader already and stepping up as a stud on the court in big spots.

This is one of those moments, as Towns isn’t blocking a shot from just anyone, it’s a shot from a former MVP who is trying to get his team back in the game. Instead, the Bulls were shut down by Towns in another signature win for this young Wolves team.
