Louis van Gaal claims Manchester United fans have been influenced by the media, as he hits back at Paul Scholes after the club’s latest victory.
It hasn’t been a terrible campaign for Manchester United, but it hasn’t been a terrific one thus far either. With 24 points from their opening 12 matches in the Premier League, the club currently sit in fourth spot in the table, but just one back of Manchester City for top spot.
While not having to deal with the same sort of scrutiny that his colleague, Jose Mourinho, is at the moment, Manchester United manager, Louis van Gaal, hasn’t been without his fair share of criticism either.
In a recent interview with the BBC in England, Manchester United great, Paul Scholes, made it quite clear that he wasn’t the biggest fan of the team’s current manager or his approach to the game.
"“There’s a lack of risk and creativity. It seems he [Van Gaal] doesn’t want players to beat men and score goals – it’s not a team I would have enjoyed playing in. The style is not something that Sir Alex Ferguson would have adhered to.”"
van Gaal has never been one to back down from a fight, though, and after his club’s 2-0 victory against West Bromwich Albion on Saturday, the Dutch tactician decided to respond to the comments made by Scholes.
"“I was pleased how they reacted against CSKA Moscow because you have to accept that fans have their own opinion but I think they were very influenced by Paul Scholes and all the criticism and what the media has written about that and then you to have to analyse the game also against CSKA Moscow.”"
Fans of United will be more than satisfied going into the international break though, with their club also winning in the Champions League midweek. The Red Devils are now unbeaten in three matches in all competitions and will be off until November 21st, when they travel to take on Watford in Premier League action.
