The Chicago Cubs are looking to make an impact this winter in free agency, and that could include a run at Alex Gordon.
When the Kansas City Royals drafted Alex Gordon back in 2005, the hope would be that one day he could help win a World Series. That dream was realize this year when the Royals beat the Mets in the World Series, but it seems that the accomplishment is something that will bookend Gordon’s time with the Royals.
With Gordon in the prime of his career and ready to hit free agency, it’s looking like he’ll be wearing a new uniform for the second half of his career. Gordon is a top free agent entering the winter months, and teams looking for that missing piece to their championship puzzle will be looking his way.
One of those teams could be the Chicago Cubs.
According to Bruce Levine of CBS Chicago writes, the Cubs are looking at the possibility of signing Alex Gordon this winter to bolster their already talented roster.
Already the Cubs are being linked to David Price, which would be an expensive signing to say the least. Adding in a potential run at another top free agent in Gordon seems to be uncharacteristic of the Cubs and their spending plans of the past. It’s been a while since the Cubs have gone out and been big spenders on the market, and if they’re interested in a run at Gordon and Price then it will be a final indication that the Cubs are all-in on trying to win the World Series next year and establish a dynasty for years to come.
