Navy vs. Memphis

The No. 13 Memphis Tigers will look to keep their perfect record intact when they host the Navy Midshipmen on Saturday evening at the Liberty Bowl.

With an impressive 8-0 start that includes a win over Ole Miss, Memphis is in line to reach a New Years Six bowl as the highest ranked G5 team and possibly more if it can run the table. However, it won’t be easy with a tricky schedule coming up, as the Tigers host a solid Navy team before going on the road for two potentially ranked matchups against Houston and Temple.

Memphis has made it this far behind an outstanding offense that ranks sixth in the nation with 566.1 yards per game according to TeamRankings. Quarterback Paxton Lynch has been one of the most productive players in the country, completing 70.2 percent of his passes for 2.709 yards and 18 touchdown so far this season.

Navy is well on its way to its fourth straight season of at least eight wins with a mark of 6-1 so far. The Midshipmen’s only loss came in early October against Notre Dame, and they have the ability to make this game closer than many would think.

Quarterback Keenan Reynolds is executing the triple option offense perfectly and will set the new NCAA record with 78 rushing touchdowns the next time he finds the end zone. Navy’s offense can be difficult to prepare for, and Memphis has struggled defensively at times this year.

The winner of Saturday’s contest will remain at least tied for first in the AAC, although many of the top teams have yet to play each other. The game begins at 7:00 PM eastern on ESPN 2 and the WatchESPN app.
