Things didn’t start out great for the Miami Dolphins
The Miami Dolphins looked like a candidate to turn things around in the 2015 NFL season after the team fired head coach Joe Philbin and named Dan Campbell their interim coach. However, things have come back to earth in recent weeks and it only got worse on their first offensive play in Week 9 against the Buffalo Bills.
After the Bills pinned the Dolphins deep in their own territory, Ryan Tannehill lined up in the shotgun. However, he mishandled a snap that hit him in the hands and the ball went flying out of the back of the end zone for the safety:
I’m not an NFL head coach, but I’d say that’s not the best way to start a game in the NFL. Seems like it might kill your momentum a bit.
The Bills defense, although inconsistent, has the talent and potential to be one of the most fearsome units in the league. Giving them a stop, putting points on the board for them, and putting your own defense back out on the field is a good way to start digging yourself in a big hole if you’re the Dolphins.
Things may have once been looking up for the Dolphins, but it’s becoming pretty clear that was more of an aberration than something we should get accustomed to. Putting your first offensive snap out of the back of the end zone is a great way to get fans and others to lose faith in you.
