Drew Brees overshoots a pass in the end zone to Mark Ingram for a poorly-timed pick.

New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees will throw a pick from time to time. On Sunday against the Tennessee Titans, he overthrew Mark Ingram in the end zone and hit Titans defensive back B.W. Webb in stride for the pick. Not the type of throw an offensive coordinator would want his quarterback to make.

Though the Tennessee Titans promptly went three-and-out on their next possession, Brees not only under-threw Ingram, but he did so in double coverage in a tight window. On a passing route like that to the end zone, it is imperative for the quarterback to put the ball where only his receiver can get it. Not only could Ingram, a running back, not get to the pass, but it landed right in Webb’s arms effortlessly.

Tennessee does have a respectable secondary, so the play calling/decision making was a little odd in that situation. Outside of tight end Delanie Walker, the Titans aren’t exactly an explosive football team on offense. Sunday’s game was second overall pick Marcus Mariota’s first game back in nearly a month.

When that pick occurred, the Titans were only down a point on the road in New Orleans.
