The Eagles took down the Cowboys in a blistering overtime affair on Sunday Night Football

123. 33. 54. Final. 27

With how inconsistent that the Philadelphia Eagles offense looked through the first eight weeks of the season and the fact that Matt Cassel is still at quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys, it’s not surprising that offense was at a premium in the first half of the Sunday Night Football matchup between these NFC East foes. After only two drives that resulted in scores in the first half, things got much saucier in the second half. This started with injuries to Sean Lee and Anthony Hitchens on the same drive for the Cowboys, ultimately aiding the Eagles and Ryan Mathews in taking a 14-7 lead. However, Cassel pulled it together despite surprisingly poor offensive line play for Dallas and connected with Cole Beasley for his second touchdown of the night to tie it up.

It was all back and forth from that point. Cassel threw a pick-six to give the Eagles the lead. However, the Cowboys tied it up with a desperation heave to the end zone early in the fourth quarter that was incredibly caught by Dez Bryant to tie it up again. The teams then traded field goals before the Eagles drove down and kicked yet another field goal to take a lead with less than two minutes remaining. Thanks to some costly penalties by Philadelphia, the Cowboys were able to drive down in that time and ultimately get Dan Bailey in range to kick the game-tying field goal with only seconds remaining. We then went to overtime.

Philadelphia got the ball to open overtime and DeMarco Murray was a beast in helping move the ball down the field against his former team. However, they were put in a tough situation with a fourth-and-one just outside of field goal range. Chip Kelly elected to go for it and it appeared that Mathews coughed it up. After review, the call was reversed and the Eagles were awarded the first down. On the very next play, Sam Bradford found Jordan Matthews on a slant and Matthews ran for 41 yards and the game-winning score.

Three stars

Cole Beasley came through in a monster way for the Cowboys in the middle parts of this game. He finished the night with nine catches for 112 yards and two scores.

DeMarco Murray led the Eagles in rushing and was all over the field for his team in helping the offense move. He rushed for 83 yards and a touchdown to go along with six catches for 78 yards.

Brandon Graham was a big reason for the struggles of the Dallas offensive line as he finished with seven tackles, two sacks, two tackles for loss, and numerous hurries throughout the contest.

With the overtime win, the Eagles covered as three-point favorites in this contest. The two teams also shattered the 43.5 over/under in what turned into somewhat of a shootout.

Next Week

The Cowboys will be on the road again trying still to keep their season afloat as they take on the inconsistent Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Philadelphia will travel back home for Week 10 where they will have a matchup against the ailing Miami Dolphins awaiting them.
