Greg Zuerlein drains a 61-yard field goal for the St. Louis Rams, a career long for him. This kick brought the Rams within a point of the Minnesota Vikings
Greg Zuerlein, known as “Greg the Leg” by St. Louis Rams fans and NFL fans in general, makes his longest field goal of his NFL career. Down 10-6 to the Minnesota Vikings on the road Sunday, Zuerlein nails a 61-yard boot to bring the Rams within a point.
Sunday’s game between the St. Louis Rams and the Minnesota Vikings is an interesting matchup since both clubs are in contention in the NFC for playoff spots. Minnesota entered Week 9 at 5-2. St. Louis entered Week 9 at 4-3.
Zuerlein’s 61-yarder against the Vikings was his second career 60+ yarder. This was also the longest field goal allowed by the Minnesota Vikings in franchise history. Giving up a 50+ yard field goal stinks. Surrendering a 60+ yard field goal is deflating.
The kick seems even more impressive since it occurred outside in Minneapolis. Remember, this is the second of two years the Minnesota Vikings will play at TCF Bank Stadium, home of the Minnesota Golden Gophers.
It was a straight shot, too! Had this been in the notorious Minnesota snow a few weeks later, this could have gone down as one of the greatest kicks of all time. 60-yard field goals are a rare feat. Congratulations on a stellar kick, Greg Zuerlein!
