Someone should console Lance Stephenson after how badly he missed this lay-up

Just over a year ago in the summer of 2014, Lance Stephenson was entering free agency and was one of the hottest commodities on the open market. He looked like a wing that could handle the ball, make plays, shoot well, and defend. Fast-forward to now and he’s already been traded to the Los Angeles Clippers from the team he signed with in 2014 after one of the worst seasons in recent memory from a player of his caliber.

Stephenson has looked like he’s improved from last season early on in his tenure with the Clippers from how he performed last year, but he’s also a player that’s always going to be prone to those moments where you’re trying to figure out what he just did. On Friday night against the Houston Rockets, he had one of those moments while trying to shoot a lay-up:

If you think that Dwight Howard got a hand on that ball, watch it again—he did not. That was all Lance somehow going for a lay-up and ultimately sending the ball floating straight over the backboard. Only with Born Ready (or maybe Swaggy P, as well) does that happen.

When Stephenson is playing up to his potential, you can live with dumbfounding lapses like this one. So far in Los Angeles, that’s been how things have gone. After seeing a lay-up like that, though, the Clippers have to be praying that there isn’t too much more of that coming their way.
