Indianapolis Colts safety Mike Adams was carted off the field after injuring himself after intercepting a pass from former teammate Peyton Manning.

The Indianapolis Colts are off to a strong start against the Denver Broncos. They currently hold a 17-0 lead and have shut down the high-octane Broncos offense led by long-time Colts QB Peyton Manning. However, they might have just lost safety Mike Adams for an extended period of time after he injured himself while intercepting his former teammate Manning.

That’s an extremely nice interception by Adams, but that injury does not look good at all. There was no contact involved, meaning that there’s a high likelihood that the injury could be an Achilles tear. Mike Adams came out of college as an undrafted free agent. He signed with the San Francisco 49ers back in 2004. He has also played for the Cleveland Browns and the Denver Broncos.

The Colts have confirmed that he is being evaluated for an ankle injury. That’s good news because at least it’s not his ACL or any of his knee ligaments. Depending on how bad the injury is, the Colts might not lose Mike Adams for the rest of the season.

The last thing the 3-5-0 Colts need right now is an injury to Adams. He is one of the leaders of their secondary. Adams has five interceptions in nine games for the Colts this season. Entering Sunday’s game against the Broncos, he had 39 tackles and five passes defended. Adams had 668 tackles and 22 interceptions entering Sunday’s matchup.
