To get on the board, the Jets converted an early touchdown pass by a throw from quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick.

Last week, New York Jets quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick suffered a left thumb injury against the Oakland Raiders in the first quarter. He would sit out the rest of the game. It was later revealed that he suffered a torn ligament in the thumb. However, the NFL veteran was cleared to play this week against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Fitzpatrick’s presence is needed for the Jets under center. Without Fitzpatrick, the Jets would need to turn to Geno Smith, which is the equivalent of raising the white flag. He has led a decent offense that features wide receivers Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker.

Around the midway point of the 1st quarter, Fitzpatrick hit Decker with a 7-yard pass for a touchdown to put the Jets up 7-3 in Sunday’s game.

Check out the play below.

Seeing Fitzpatrick throw this early touchdown is a great sign for the Jets and their fans. While the thumb may be causing him pain, he proved he is able to throw the football well and should provide a stable force today for the team.

As the Jets Tweet noted above, this was the sixth touchdown in seven games for Decker, who has been terrific this season. The Jets were hoping for a big season from the former Denver Broncos receiver. Now that he is playing under a competent quarterback, this production should continue throughout the rest of the season as Geno Smith rides the bench.
