8. Los Angeles Clippers are a wild card

Doc Rivers is in his third season with the Los Angeles Clippers, but this Clippers team seems much different than the Clippers we’ve seen in the past few years.

Yes, Chris Paul is still an amazing point guard. Obviously, it’s a lot of fun to watch Blake Griffin and DeAndre Jordan fly through the air with reckless abandon. But there have been some interesting additions made to L.A.’s team.

While J.J. Redick is still the sharpshooting playmaker we’ve come to know and love, he’s joined in the backcourt by Lance Stephenson. Stephenson shot a record-low 17 percent from behind the three-point line last year for the Charlotte Hornets. But even though Stephenson wasn’t a good fit for Charlotte, that doesn’t mean he can’t excel for the Clippers.

Rivers also tacked on one of his former players: Paul Pierce. Pierce had a bounce back year with the Washington Wizards last year after he got out of a bad situation with the Brooklyn Nets.

Pierce is an L.A. native and finally adds another dimension to the Clippers. He brings confidence and the ability to take big shots in big moments. That’s something that has held the Clippers back for a long time.

If he stays healthy and Stephenson flourishes under Rivers, the Clippers could give the Warriors a very hard time in a playoff series. And that’s not even mentioning the possible progression of Griffin from star to superstar. We’ve seen Griffin add a perimeter game to his arsenal, but he’s still seen as just a high flyer. Griffin could help himself and the team by taking the next step in his own game.
