Jay Cutler becomes Bears’ all-time passing touchdown leader
Jay Cutler’s name is now in the Chicago Bears history books.
Jay Cutler is the new Bears all-time passing touchdown leader. The previous record was held by Sid Luckman who had 137 passing touchdowns and had held the record since 1950.
Cutler now has 138 touchdown passes in a Bears uniform.
Cutler has played for the Bears since 2008 after requesting a trade from the Denver Broncos. The record-breaking touchdown was a 1-yard throw to tight end Martellus Bennett in the second quarter of their game against the San Diego Chargers.
Cutler threw the touchdown after throwing a pick-six on the previous possession to Chargers cornerback Jason Verrett. It remains to be seen if Cutler will be the future quarterback for the Bears. His inconsistent play and turnover-prone career overshadows his strong arm, and athleticism. There are plenty of thrills and chills with Cutler, as you never know what to expect when he throws the ball.
Cutler will most likely expand on his own record as the season goes on for the Bears. He has looked comfortable in offensive coordinator Adam Gase’s system. Cutler has produced well even though he is playing with a shuffled offensive line and young wide receivers on the outside.
