Bears backup running back Jeremy Langford laid out to make a terrific catch vs. the Chargers
The Chicago Bears lost one of their biggest offensive weapons last week as Matt Forte went out with an injury. Though he’s not lost for the year, he was ruled out for their Monday Night Football matchup with the San Diego Chargers. That meant that rookie running back Jeremy Langford was due for a much bigger role and he made an impact almost immediately.
After getting nowhere on the opening drive and allowing the Chargers to score on their first offensive drive, the Bears needed to make something happen. They sent Langford on a wheel route down the left sideline and Jay Cutler lofted a deep pass to the backup running back. The rookie laid out and made a beautiful grab for a big gain:

For a rookie that hasn’t played much over the first eight weeks of the season, that’s a big-time play and an amazing grab (even if it possibly could have been ruled incomplete had it been reviewed). Plays like that have to give the Bears a bit of hope if Forte is to miss anymore time.
Unfortunately for Langford, Chicago essentially wasted his effort on that catch. Just a few plays later, Cutler was sacked and coughed up the football. The Chargers recovered to kill what had been a solid drive for the Bears to that point. Regardless, that catch should have the Bears looking the rookie’s way a little more confidently when he’s on the field.
