Leonard Fournette auctioned off a jersey to raise money for victims of South Carolina flooding, and it sold for $101 thousand.

As the University of South Carolina had to move their home game to Tiger Stadium to face off against Louisiana State University, Leonard Fournette, running back for LSU was impacted greatly. USC was moving the game to LSU because the surrounding areas were flooded terribly, a scenario Fournette has lived through, since his family’s home was damaged after Hurricane Katrina.

Fournette had a big game against the Gamecocks that day, rushing for a touchdown and over 150 yards.

Fournette wanted to make a difference, and decided to auction off his jersey, making sure all proceeds went to victims of the flooding. This is an incredibly rare jersey, because it came with Fournette’s nameplate across the back, despite usual rules that the NCAA has in place prohibiting the sale of any jerseys with college athlete’s nameplates on them. Due to the circumstances, it was approved by the NCAA.

The package was made even more valuable with a Les Miles and Steve Spurrier autographed helmet. The auction started the package off at $7,000, and it was far surpassed. Fournette’s jersey ended up selling for $101 thousand.

This jersey broke records, and sold at a comparable price to other notable college sports memorabilia. It was the highest selling game worn college football jersey in an internet auction, and it beat out the next one up by a landslide. The jersey it beat out only sold for $31,070, per Darren Rovell.

It also was mentioned alongside a Tim Tebow jersey that sold for $250,000, and a Christian Laettner jersey that sold for $119,500.

Fournette is having a big year, and leads the nation in rushing yards.
