After being hit hard and knocked momentarily unconscious in Sunday’s game against the St. Louis Rams, Teddy Bridgewater has surprisingly passed the first concussion test

The football world nearly stopped when St. Louis Ram’s cornerback Lamarcus Joyner hit Minnesota Vikings’ quarterback Teddy Bridgewater and knocked him momentarily unconscious. It was recognized as a dirty play, and one that appeared to leave the Vikings season up in the air as their leading quarterback was sprawled out on the field.

If you haven’t seen the big hit yet, here it is:

Everything about the situation screamed concussion, and screamed that he should be prepared to sit for at least one game, but surprisingly, he has passed the first round of concussion testing, according to head coach Mike Zimmer. Bridgewater did not return in this game against the Rams, but the Vikings still came away with an overtime win to improve their record to 6-2.

Zimmer was frustrated with the big hit on Sunday, and even refused to shake hands with, or even look at Rams’ head coach Jeff Fisher. The issue was more with defensive coordinator  Gregg Williams, though, who was once suspended for his part in the New Orleans’ Saints bounty-gate scandal. The past with him making intentionally hurtful hits on other players doesn’t make the situation any better.

The Vikings play the Oakland Raiders next Sunday, and it looks like Teddy will be able to start. The week after that they face off against the Green Bay Packers, who they are currently tied with for the lead in the NFC North.
