These allegations obviously paint a picture of another horrifying instance of domestic violence in sports. Though the details on the situation are scarce right now, any situation where someone is brought into police custody with phrases like “domestic abuse” and “assaulted his wife” are being thrown around is not a good thing.
This could be the first truly major test for MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred after just taking over the position in January of this year. The league and the MLB Players’ Association agreed on a Joint Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Policy in August, seen here:

The important thing to note from there is that the MLB Commissioner will conduct his own investigation into the matter along with the legal investigation. Furthermore, the agreement states that there is no minimum or maximum penalty set for instances of domestic violence. Essentially, what could happen in terms of Reyes’ future in baseball is up in the air. All we know as of now is that this appears to be another terrible situation involving a professional athlete and the words “domestic violence.”
