The Montreal Canadiens are without their star goalie Carey Price. Rookie Mike Condon has stepped in admirably filling in for the best goalie in the NHL.

The National Hockey League season has begun and the bright spot during the 2015-16 season so far has to be the play of the Montreal Canadiens.

Sixteen games into the season and the Montreal Canadiens, the team with 24 championships — the most in the NHL — has 27 points to their record and a player responsible for that level of success has to be the man between the pipes, goaltender Carey Price.

Price is, after all, one of the best goaltenders currently in the game and has won seven of his nine starts, as well as earning two shutouts.

As good as Price has been for the Canadiens, he has proven that he is not immune from the injured reserve list after sustaining a lower body injury in a game on October 29 in Alberta against the Edmonton Oilers.

During the game in western Canada, Montreal had a 3-0 first period lead only to see their opponent come roaring back and win 4-3 in regulation time.

In his absence since the game in Edmonton, rookie goaltender Mike Condon, age 25, has stepped into the demanding starting role for Montreal. He has had four starts, winning three games and currently has a record of 3-0-1. Since the injury to Price, in Edmonton, the Montreal Canadiens have won 4 of their last five games.

On Monday, Price went to get a second opinion in New York for his ailing lower body injury that has not improved.

On Tuesday word leaked out that Price will be out for at least another week.

Head coach Michel Therrien has to be concerned as his star netminder has already been out for a few games. Now that word has leaked out that he will be out for another week, coach Therrien and General Manager Marc Bergevin have to be alarmed.

The injury to Price has to be somewhat concerning to the fans of the Montreal hockey club, as well, despite the team sitting with the best record in the NHL.

The Canadiens next game is Wednesday night against the high-flying Pittsburgh Penguins. Goaltender Mike Condon is expected to get the start.
