College Football Results Against The Spread Week 9

facebooktwitterreddit

I think I had a pretty good week this week if my Pick Em results were any indication. I know I missed a few of the big ones, but overall, I think I did well. Let’s find out together, shall we! Yes, I know this is old news to most of you, but they are still new to me! I have spent most waking hours since I got back watching a DVR full of football. This is the life!

Here are my college football results against the spread for week 9 of the college football season. Winners against the spread are in BOLD. Here are the picks in case you would like to follow along!

North Carolina(-2.5) at Pittsburgh: MISS! This isn’t that big of an upset. It was in ranking only. Pitt’s defense was exposed some by the Tarheels in this one.

West Virginia at TCU(-14.5): HIT! TCU’s defense showed their weakness here, even in a blowout win. It would cost them next week, and likely will at least once more this season.

Western Michigan(-20.5) at Eastern Michigan: HIT! The Eagles’ run defense has kept them from making any real progress this season.

Buffalo(-7.5) at Miami(OH): MISS! I hate picking Buffalo. This game is the latest exhibit why.

Texas State at Georgia Southern(-20.5): HIT! See also: Eastern Michigan.

Oregon at Arizona State(-2.5): HIT! This was one of the most entertaining games of the season. The story behind the story is that the Sun Devils absolutely dominated the stat sheet. Oregon’s defense is still a work in progress, and that is being nice about it.

Louisville(-11.5) at Wake Forest: MISS! Wake’s offense was actually respectable in this one.

East Carolina(-7.5) at Connecticut: MISS! I knew better. The Pirates had looked very good of late, but that UConn defense is impressive.

Louisiana Tech(-12.5) at Rice: HIT! The Bulldog offense is going to be tough for anyone in Conference USA to stop.

Wyoming at Utah State(-27.5): HIT! I’m still surprised Wyoming won a game, especially seeing how they played in this one.

Western Kentucky(-23.5) at Old Dominion: HIT! I would have really been sweating this one if I had internet access!

Central Florida at Cincinnati(-26.5): HIT! There is still free beer to be had in Orlando! No word yet as to whether the promotion will last beyond this season.

South Florida at Navy(-7.5): HIT! This score was exactly what the line opened at: Navy -12. You don’t see that very often.

Illinois at Penn State(-4.5): HIT! I knew it was low, but I didn’t think it was 35 points low! Speaking of low, the Illini might have hit a new one here. They couldn’t do anything right.

Nebraska(-10.5) at Purdue: HIT! This line was ridiculous! Nebraska did exact their revenge on me last week. They blew one of my five pointers.

Rutgers at Wisconsin(-20.5): MISS! I knew better. I want to see Rutgers play Illinois just because I like bad football.

Mississippi(-7.5) at Auburn: HIT! This was way too close for my liking, but a win is a win!

South Carolina at Texas A&M(-16.5): MISS! Texas A&M was greatly overrated this year. That said, Kyler Murray is going to be a terror next year. He is right now, and he still doesn’t really know what he is doing out there.

Syracuse at Florida State(-20.5): MISS! I should have picked against the Orange on Halloween….

Virginia Tech(-2.5) at Boston College: HIT! Virginia Tech now has an offense, thanks to the emergence of Travon McMillian.

Massachusetts at Ball State(-2.5): MISS! This is exactly why you should never wager big on inconsistent or unknown teams.

Central Michigan(-3.5) at Akron: MISS! ……and this is why you never pick games out of spite!

UTEP at Southern Mississippi(-23.5): MISS! This game was never close, but the Eagles let off the gas, unfortunately for those of us that bet this game.

Georgia Tech(-5.5) at Virginia: MISS! Well, the Bees are now the team that I most hate to pick. Ridiculous!

USC(-5.5) at California: HIT! This was way too close for one of my five pointers!

Colorado at UCLA(-21.5): MISS! UCLA is right up there with Georgia Tech and Buffalo….

Oklahoma(-39.5) at Kansas: HIT! Can we move Kansas down to 1-AA for football yet?

Clemson(-10.5) at North Carolina State: HIT! There is a reason Clemson is number one. Watch a game and find out for yourself. That said, I still don’t think they are the best team in the country. That is why a four team playoff is a good thing.

Georgia vs. Florida(-3.5): HIT! Easy money.

Marshall(-18.5) at Charlotte: HIT! The growing pains continue for the 49ers.

Florida International(-2.5) at Florida Atlantic: MISS! So much for that…

Oklahoma State(-3.5) at Texas Tech: MISS! You know, from this result we should have seen the toppling of TCU coming. They both played Tech in Lubbock. The Cowboys handled Tech. TCU was lucky to win.

Maryland at Iowa(-16.5): MISS! That stupid half! Damn Iowa for giving up 15 in the fourth quarter!

Boise State(-20.5) at UNLV: HIT! The Broncos needed 28 fourth quarter points to run off with this.

San Diego State(-3.5) at Colorado State: HIT! The Aztecs might be the best team in the Mountain West. Five years ago, that would have meant something.

Troy at Appalachian State(-23.5): MISS! Where did that come from? On the road, no less!

Tulsa(-3.5) at SMU: HIT! More easy money!

Louisiana-Monroe at Louisiana-Lafayette(-11.5): HIT! These are close teams. If they played in Baton Rouge or New Orleans, they might go into so many overtimes that they would just call a draw…..

Georgia State at Arkansas State(-17.5): HIT! Did the short week hurt the Red Wolves? Who knows. They still won by two touchdowns.

Tulane at Memphis(-31.5): HIT! Well, its a good thing that Tulane shut out the Tigers in the first quarter.

Oregon State at Utah(-23.5): MISS! I don’t even know how to explain Utah’s performance. Hangover, maybe?

Vanderbilt at Houston(-11.5): MISS! Well, so much for Vandy’s solid defense. Houston is a great candidate for a New Years Six Bowl.

Miami(FL) at Duke(-9.5): MISS! Miami wasn’t going to get covered even before the wild last play. They rallied for Golden….or maybe because he was gone. We may never know.

Michigan(-13.5) at Minnesota: MISS! Since Jerry Kill stepped down, the Gophers, and particularly QB Mitch Leidner, have looked like the team they were supposed to be this year. It is unfortunate that it took such a sad event to light the fire under them.

Texas(-6.5) at Iowa State: MISS! This loss hurts Oklahoma’s already miniscule chances at a playoff invite. The Cyclones dominated this one.

UTSA(-8.5) at North Texas: HIT! The Mean Green are back! Well, at least back to where they were last year.

Tennessee(-8.5) at Kentucky: HIT! Kentucky has a lot of talent. Is Mark Stoops going to get the same rap that brother Mike has? Mike recruited good and even great players to Arizona, but he always lost games that he shouldn’t. Kentucky has stormed out of the gates the last two seasons only to collapse in late October. It happened again this year.

Notre Dame(-10.5) at Temple: HIT! The Owls gave the Irish all they wanted, but came up just short.

Idaho(-5.5) at New Mexico State: MISS! Leave it to the Vandals to lose to the only team they have beaten in the last three seasons….

Air Force(-7.5) at Hawaii: MISS! Wow, you can’t miss a game any worse than I missed this one.

Stanford(-11.5) at Washington State: HIT! The Cougars were very close to earning a visit from College GameDay. Maybe next year!`

Arizona at Washington(-4.5): MISS! What a performance by the Washington defense.

This week was better than I thought! I went 29-23 against the spread, moving my season total to 241-230. That puts me at 51.2% on the year. I am edging closer to the 55% mark, which was my goal at the beginning of the season. I gained 24 points on the point scale to put me at +25 on the year. I am happy with the direction I am heading. We will see what week 10 brought!

Stay tuned for the week 10 results as I will get caught up before my ESPN Pick Em picks come out.
