Rex Ryan loves his family very much, which is why he decided to wear a Clemson Tigers helmet during a Tuesday morning press conference.

Rex Ryan was up to his usual shenanigans when he decided to spontaneously wear a Clemson Tigers helmet to the Buffalo Bills‘ Tuesday press conference.

While from an outsider’s perspective it seems incredibly odd that Ryan would do something like this, it actually makes perfect sense. Ryan and his wife Michelle have two sons, Payton and Seth, and his younger son Seth is a redshirt sophomore wide receiver for Clemson — who also acts as the team’s current holder. The Tigers defeated the Florida State Seminoles 23-13 this past weekend and moved ahead of the Ohio State Buckeyes as the No. 1 team in this week’s AP Poll. Clemson is also No. 1 in the NCA’s current Playoff Rankings.

Ryan’s press conference also featured some totally fun, in-character bravado directed at specific New York Jets players before Ryan’s much-anticipated Thursday night return to the Meadowlands.

First, Ryan lightly criticized Jets’ starting quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick’s beard:

By that time, Jets safety Calvin Pryor had received the news of Ryan’s antics to start the day:

"The guy does anything for attention"

After ESPN’s Mike Rodak brought up Pryor’s tweet to Ryan during his press conference, Ryan responded directly to the 2014 first-round pick and former Louisville product:

To which Pryor responded again:

While not everybody may agree with Ryan’s antics — and may think they’re actually childish — there is no denying that there is a certain humorous charm about Rex that he brings with him no matter where he goes. Clemson head coach Dabo Sweeney would seem to agree:

You keep doing you, Rex.
