After reports suggested Texas head coach Charlie Strong could be interested in the opening at Miami, a new report has suggested that he is not interested in the job
It’s about the time of the year for college football when bowl season draws near and speculation is rampant about who is going to go where when it comes to openings for head coach at programs around the country.
One of those programs with an opening at head coach will be the Miami Hurricanes, who are in need of a new head coach after they fired Al Golden during yet another disappointing season for the team.
One of the coaches that has been linked to the Miami job, Texas head coach Charlie Strong, after early reports indicated he was interested in the position, is now reportedly not interested in the job at Miami.
According to SportsDayDFW, a source close to the situation has said that Strong is not interested in the opening at Miami.
"A source close to the Texas program indicated Thursday that Charlie Strong is not interested in the head coaching job at Miami.Strong’s name has been repeatedly linked to the opening. The Miami Herald reported this week that people are Miami “are under the impression” that Strong and Cincinnati coach Tommy Tubeville are interested. But the source indicated that Strong, who strongly denied interest initially, has not changed his mind. Strong is “very happy” at Texas, the source said."
This is certainly an interesting situation to keep an eye on. More or less Strong’s decision to stay in Texas, should that be the case. With the Longhorns in the middle of another disappointing season, which saw their AD, Steve Patterson, get let go, one has to wonder just how secure Strong’s job at Texas really is.
If he’s turning down interest in other openings, then maybe he feels secure enough in his future with the Longhorns that he might get another crack at a season or two in Texas. However, the demand to be one of the best is high at Texas, and Strong can’t just assume he is going to be safe after the season.
Perhaps if the reports are accurate, then maybe he just doesn’t want the Miami job in general. That doesn’t necessarily mean he wouldn’t be interested in another opening if one were to become available to him.
Whatever the case may be, Miami is in need of a new head coach. One of their rumored targets, Charlie Strong, doesn’t appear to be interested.
