The Los Angeles Dodgers figure to be quite active in the free agent market this off-season. Who will their most likely targets in free agency be?
The Los Angeles Dodgers are coming off another impressive regular season. They went 92-70 as they won their third consecutive National League West division title. Their season was spoiled by the eventual National League champion New York Mets in the first round of the playoffs. This is the second time in three seasons that the Los Angeles Dodgers have been knocked out of the playoffs in the first round. The boys in blue will likely be active in free agency as they look to improve and win their first World Series since 1988.
The Blue Crew have three major needs that they must address in order to make a run at the World Series. They first must address their bullpen; Kenley Jansen and J.P. Howell were their only two reliable relievers last season. They absolutely must upgrade their bullpen if they want to have a shot at bringing home a World Series title. They also must either re-sign starting pitcher Zack Greinke or find a suitable replacement. There are several upper-tier arms available in free agency. LA will definitely have options.
Finally, they must address their future at third base, which is a question mark at this point. World Series contenders shouldn’t have that big of a question mark at such an important position. They have a bit of flexibility as they could move current shortstop Corey Seager to third base should they find another suitable shortstop. They also must address their future at second base, though they have some internal options.
Let’s look at five free agents who the Los Angeles Dodgers should look at.
