Jordan Zimmermann will draw plenty of interest this winter. Here are five potential landing spots for the free agent.

The 2015 MLB free agent class is headlined by a number of ace-level starting pitchers available on the open market. David Price, Johnny Cueto and Zack Greinke are all expected to generate massive bidding wars with contracts pushing $200 million.

However, this offseason’s free agency won’t be just all about the star power. Behind that trio, a number of strong starting pitchers who could improve any team are still available.

Leading that group is longtime Washington Nationals starter Jordan Zimmermann, who figures to generate interest from a number of clubs this winter. While Zimmermann didn’t put up the dominating numbers of a Price or Greinke in 2015, he is still good enough to be a No. 2 in just about any rotation for years to come.

After an outstanding campaign in 2014, the 29-year-old posted a 3.66 ERA (3.75 FIP) in 33 starts with the Nationals last season according to FanGraphs.com. Those were the worst numbers in any full season of Zimmermann’s career, but his consistency and durability still make him a desirable commodity on the free agent market.

There’s a chance that Zimmermann ends up back in Washington, as the Nationals would want to bring back such a pitcher while their World Series window is still open. However, Washington has a number of other free agents to worry about over the next couple of years and may not have the financial resources of some other interested teams.

The usual big spenders in free agency will likely at least kick the tires on Zimmermann, but a few surprise teams could get in the mix.
