The latest word is that John Cena and Roman Reigns will main event WrestleMania 32
Rumors about the possibilities for WrestleMania 32 have been circulating essentially since the conclusion of this past year’s ‘Mania. Those rumors have included names like The Rock, Ronda Rousey, and Stone Cold Steve Austin over the past few months. However, as WWE’s biggest pay-per-view event in history approaches, things seemed to be getting more concrete.
The Seth Rollins injury has thrown WWE a curveball, though, and now they are left shuffling plans what seems like every other day. Just recently, it was rumored that John Cena and The Undertaker would be facing off in a monumentally big contest at WrestleMania 32. Now it appears that the company has other plans for their top guy in Cena.
According to the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the current backstage plans for the main event of WrestleMania 32 are to have Cena face off with Roman Reigns, likely for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. As for The Undertaker, that would leave him with a mystery opponent of some sort.
The prospect of Cena and Reigns clashing at the company’s biggest event of the year and likely ever is intrinsically curious. Given the current alignment of both superstars, that would put face vs. face in the main event of ‘Mania. While that’s something WWE has done before, you have to consider the possibility that having that match planned for the main event of WreslteMania 32 opens up the possibility for a heel turn for either Cena or Reigns.
The internet has longed for a Cena heel turn for what feels like forever, but that seems far less likely than Reigns potentially turning heel. With the ongoing tournament for the title that will conclude at Survivor Series, there are many fans who have entertained the notion that it could lead to a Reigns heel turn. Given the plans for him to meet Cena at WrestleMania 32, that makes that possibility seem even more plausible.
