Memphis Tigers vs. Houston Cougars

Two of the best teams in college football not competing in a Power 5 conference will face off in a titanic American Athletic Conference showdown on Saturday as the Memphis Tigers travel to TDECU Stadium for a clash with the Houston Cougars. Paxton Lynch and Dorolona Dorceus lead one of the most prolific offenses in college football in Memphis on the road looking to shake things up in the conference after their long shot College Football Playoff hopes were dashed with their first loss last week. However, Houston remains unbeaten and still has a chance to make things crazy in terms of the College Football Playoff and Greg Ward Jr. will look to carry the Cougars to remaining perfect on Saturday.

Keys to Victory

If you’ve seen Memphis play at all this season, you know that they begin and end with Paxton Lynch throwing the football. The junior quarterback has already surpassed 3,000 yards passing to this point in the season and has been near perfect for most of the year. The key for Lynch and the Tigers will be to rebound off of a tough performance last weekend where Lynch threw just one touchdown and was picked off for only the second time on the year. This is going to be a high-scoring affair and the Memphis office can’t look hungover after losing last week.

Much like Lynch leads the Tigers at quarterback, the story for Houston is all about their quarterback in Greg Ward Jr. Ward has been unbelievably prolific as a dual-threat quarterback as he’s thrown for 13 touchdowns this season and rushed for 16 more. He’s been incredible, but will have to be at the top of his game on Saturday evening if he wants to keep up with what Lynch and Memphis are capable of doing with their offense.

Prediction

If you love scoring, than this is the game for you. These are two of the best offenses in the league matching up on the field on Saturday evening. Given how Navy’s rushing attack gashed the Tigers last week and how dynamic Ward and the Cougars offense is, I think Houston remains undefeated when the final whistle sounds in this game.

Final Score: Memphis Tigers: 43, Houston Cougars: 51
