48. Bobby Dodd Stadium (Georgia Tech)

With an awesome backdrop of the Atlanta skyline, Georgia Tech’s Bobby Dodd Stadium happens to be one of the oldest in the nation. It has been standing since 1913, so that makes this one of the very few stadiums in the nation to last over 100 years – and that’s quite a feat.

In fact, Bobby Dodd is the oldest on-campus college stadium in the United States that remains in use to this day. The players running out of the tunnel every Saturday in front of 55,000 fans have to realize how lucky they are. Heck, back in 1913, the field was only big enough to fit just over 5,000 fans.

Formerly known as Grant Field, the stadium was named after Bobby Dodd, the winningest head coach in Yellow Jackets’ school history.

As with most older venues nowadays, Bobby Dodd has undergone renovations to upgrade everything from the seating to the scoreboards.

Talk about tradition, though. Georgia Tech has played dozens of memorable games on their home turf in Atlanta, but three really stick out.

First, there was the most lopsided win in college sports history as the Georgia Tech – then known as the Engineers – beat Cumberland College 222-0 in 1916. Next, the unranked Yellow Jackets took down No. 1 Alabama in 1962, ending the Crimson Tide’s 26-game unbeaten streak. Lastly, the most recent game was the 22-16 miracle win over No. 9 Florida State on a blocked field goal and run back for a touchdown with no time left.

Here’s to another 100-plus years of great games at Bobby Dodd.
