Detroit Lions’ owner apologizes to fans
Detroit Lions’ owner, Martha Ford, has apologized to season ticket holders in an email after the Lions’ atrocious start to the season.
Dear me the Lions are bad. After a fairly poor Kansas City Chiefs team was able to pummel the Lions in the final London game of the year, the Detroit franchise fell to a record of 1-7 and have thoroughly written off the season. In a letter, Detroit Lions owner Martha Ford thanked fans for their continued support through the difficult season, while also apologizing for the level of performance:
"“The organizational changes I made last week reflect not only our disappointment with this season, but also underscore our commitment to each of you. You deserve much better. Your support, loyalty and passion for the Lions over the years has been nothing short of remarkable. You have done your part. Now we must do our part. You deserve a Lions football team that is a consistent winner and one that competes for championships. Thank you again for your continued support of the Lions, and please know that giving you a championship football team is the singular goal for me and my family”"
The Lions had seen a resurgence in success in recent seasons with Matthew Stafford and Calvin Johnson leading an explosive offense, and also boasting a solid defense. Unfortunately, offseason departures of Ndamukong Suh and Nick Fairley gutted the defensive line. Although the postseason was most certainly the aim, this season has been utterly woeful and many Lions fans have lost all hope in the franchise. Ford, as every owner should, sympathizes with the fans, and has vowed for future improvement. It remains to be seen whether her intentions will come to pass.
