#4 – New Orleans Pelicans

When including the Pelicans in last week’s rankings, I fully expected that it would be the final time New Orleans would appear this season. Sadly for fans of Anthony Davis and company, that is not the case.

New Orleans did garner their first win this week and the Pelicans have, at least generally, performed better in recent days, but a 19-point defeat at the hands of the Toronto Raptors on Friday did not do the team any favors. The vast majority of the issue tied to the Pelicans have to do with injuries, but the defense has been ghastly, allowing 109.9 points per 100 possessions, and given the recent history of trouble on that end for this franchise, it may not be a full-fledged aberration.

The Pelicans are better than their 1-8 record, but a team that looked like a playoff lock may be scratching and clawing to win 40-45 games.

#3 – Brooklyn Nets

The Nets, somehow, picked up a road win over the Houston Rockets this week, and that helps Lionel Hollins and his team to fall down the list a bit. Brooklyn is still a ghastly basketball team in virtually every way right now, but getting on the board keeps them out of the top spot, and that should be considered a victory to some degree.

For those of you that witnessed all 48 minutes of Friday’s game between the Kings and Nets, I’m so sorry, and even in a week that saw Brooklyn grab a victory, that could be the lasting image of impotence.
