Sacramento Kings GM Vlade Divac ensures George Karl’s job security
In the latest chapter of the Sacramento Kings Saga, general manager and president of basketball operations, Vlade Divac has come out publicly to support head coach George Karl. It is no secret that the Kings have gotten off to a rocky start, with tensions brewing between superstar big man DeMarcus Cousins and the newly signed Karl. Although the Kings are rife with talent, spearheaded by the confounding duo of Rajon Rondo and Cousins, they also have a locker room full of gargantuan personalities.
Divac attempted to save face by telling reporters on Wednesday “George’s job is not in jeopardy. Absolutely not”. Divac who was hired in March of this year went on to say “Nothing has changed. I believe in him. I believe he is good for us. Yes, we struggle, but you can see the way we played tonight, we have the talent, and we will turn this around.”
The Big Lead reported that after falling to the San Antonio Spurs on Monday, Cousins stormed into the Kings locker room and berated Karl with an obscenity soaked tirade. Afterwards Divac reportedly asked the team whether or not Karl was the right coach for this squad or not. After an apology from Boogie Cousins and a team meeting that took place on Tuesday, it seems that the Kings are trying to quell the storm that has taken over their locker.
The drama between Karl and Cousins started last summer after it was reported that the new coach was inclined to trade Cousins away. In the past George Karl has come to blows with his superstars, most notably Carmelo Anthony when the two teamed up in Denver. So this is certainly not new for the veteran coach. However Karl, who has $11 million of his $14.5 million contract guaranteed, may be wondering if this was the right job in which to make his comeback.
