The New England Patriots are trying to remain undefeated, but the New York Giants are putting up a terrific fight. Down 20-10 in the second half, Patriots receiver Danny Amendola caught a punt and set sail for 82 yards. Normally, you would feel like this was a tremendous return, but maybe not so much.
This is not supposed to happen. When you are wearing the same uniform as the guy returning the ball, you don’t want to tackle the guy. Unfortunately, New England did not get the memo. On the flip side, the Patriots were able to put the ball into the end zone and made it a 3-point game.
New England is currently sitting at 8-0 and leading the AFC East by three games over the Buffalo Bills and New York Jets. The Patriots are simply playing for the right to have a first-round BYE in the AFC playoffs. Going into the weekend, New England was tied with the Cincinnati Bengals and one game ahead of the Denver Broncos.
The Patriots were expected to take a step back this season after losing plenty of talent including corners Darrelle Revis and Brandon Browner. However, New England has been a juggernaut, clearly looking like one of the best teams in the NFL.
