Drew Brees still on fire, throws touchdown to Brandin Cooks
By Randy Gurzi
Drew Brees has 10 touchdown passes the past two weeks, and starts Sunday at Washington where he left off.
After a Jordan Reed touchdown put the Washington Redskins up 7-0, the New Orleans Saints answered with a five-play, 83-yard drive. The drive took just three minutes and two seconds, and ended with a pass from quarterback Drew Brees to receiver Brandin Cooks.
Brees has been red hot the past couple of games as he threw seven touchdowns against the New York Giants and then another three last week against the Tennessee Titans. In the second quarter, Brees hit Cooks for a 60-yard touchdown throw, giving the second-year receiver three catches for 79 yards. Brees has two touchdown tosses on Sunday with 97 yards on 6-of-7 passing.
Cooks has come on huge of late as well, after a slow start to the 2015 season. After a two-touchdown game against New York and 71 yards and another score against the Titans, Cooks now has 48 catches for 682 yards and six touchdowns.
This looks to be another shootout for two teams that have struggled to stop opponents from scoring all season long.A 70-yard run by running back Mark Ingram set the Saints up for the score and Brees was 2-of-3 passing for 12 yards on the drive. Washington is 3-5 but remains in the hunt in a poor NFC East where the leaders, New York, sit at just 5-4. The Saints are now 4-5 after starting the year out at just 1-3.
