Julian Edelman will not return to the field for the New England Patriots in their match against the New York Giants.
New England Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman left Sunday’s game against the New York Giants with a foot injury in the second quarter. He has since been ruled out for the rest of the game, but it remains to be seen how long he will be out beyond this game. It has been confirmed on Twitter that the Patriots revealed Edelman’s game status for the rest of the day.

Edelman continues to be the top wide receiver for the Patriots, as he filled Wes Welker’s role smoothly while benefiting from extra coverage on Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski. Losing him would be a major blow to the Patriots offense even with a healthy Tom Brady, and making a comeback against the determined Giants will become even more difficult.
The Patriots trail the Giants, 17-10, at halftime in a game that looks like it may have a similar result to Super Bowl XLII and XLVI. The Giants have established themselves as Patriots killers, as they have not lost to them since the 2007 regular-season finale. Giants quarterback Eli Manning continues to show no fear against the Patriots, as he finished the first half with 262 passing yards and two touchdowns. He has won two Super Bowls and two Super Bowl MVP awards by leading the Giants to comeback victories against the Patriots both times, but it appears he may not need to engineer a game-winning drive this time.
