Peyton Manning benched vs. Chiefs
In the first quarter of Sunday’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs, history was made by Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning. The 39-year-old was able to become the National Football League’s all-time leading passer, eclipsing the mark of Brett Favre.
In the third quarter, Manning was pulled for Brock Osweiler. Osweiler came into the game in the third quarter to relieve Manning, who is having one of the worst days of his career. The future first-ballot Hall of Famer completed 5-of-20 passes for 35 yards along with zero touchdowns and four interceptions. It was every bit as hideous as it sounds, and it caused Broncos head coach Gary Kubiak to make the move.
The question now becomes what do the Broncos do from here? They are 7-1 and leading the AFC West by a comfortable margin, but they have a horrid offense led by a legend who is playing like the worst quarterback in the game. Manning has thrown only nine touchdowns this season against 17 interceptions, by far the highest total in the league.
The Broncos are playing at the Chicago Bears next week at Soldier Field. Who is the starter when Denver takes the field? If it is Osweiler, we have seen the changing of the guard. Manning would be riding out the rest of the season on the bench before riding off into the sunset.
