Kirk Cousins and Washington exploded on offense to take down New Orleans

The Washington Redskins and New Orleans Saints matching up in Week 10 was always going to be an offensive battle. Both defenses in this game have been inconsistent at best and downright awful at worst this season leading to everything pointed to these two teams winding up in a shootout. However, apparently Kirk Cousins and the Redskins were the only ones who got that memo regarding this matchup, because the Washington defense absolutely exploded on the lackluster Saints defense while Drew Brees and the Saints offense sputtered after the first quarter and the Washington defense came up with timely turnovers in the second half.

Cousins had arguably the best day of his professional career against New Orleans in Week 10. He was confident in his throws, spreading the ball around across all of his receivers and running backs. Cousins benefitted from Matt Jones’ big-play ability and from having Jordan Reed step up when needed as Washington drove into the red zone. By the middle of the fourth quarter, thanks to Cousins and a couple of Drew Brees interceptions (including one that Washington ran back for yet another touchdown), the Redskins were coasting. They put in the human victory cigar in Colt McCoy at quarterback to run out the time remaining on the clock and then coasted to a dominant victory to help stay at least somewhat alive in the NFC East.

Three stars

Kirk Cousins was phenomenal against the porous Saints defense. He finished the day going 20-25 for 324 yards and four touchdowns on the day while also not throwing an interception.

Matt Jones continues to be a big-play guy for the Redskins as the running back finished with 55 yards rushing and three catches for 131 yards and a score in the passing game.

Jordan Reed wasn’t a target monster, but he came through for Washington when it mattered. The talented tight end finished with three catches for 29 yards and two trips to the end zone.
