Check out this third quarter interception that Arizona Cardinals defensive back Tyrann Mathieu made

During his time at LSU, Tyrann Mathieu was known as the “Honey Badger,” an animal with “ferocious defensive abilities.” It fit him well because he was a ball hawk for the Tigers and constantly made eye-popping defensive plays. He would bring that to the Arizona Cardinals when they drafted him in the third round in the 2013 NFL Draft.

Mathieu has had a strong career thus far with the Cardinals. His size (5 ft. 9 in.) hasn’t deterred him like some NFL scouts thought. He has fit in well as a ball hawking safety for Arizona, being paired with LSU teammate Patrick Peterson to form a terrific secondary.

Well, during the Sunday Night Football game against the Seattle Seahawks, Mathieu would indeed show why he’s the Honey Badger.

Mathieu plays this overthrown ball by Russell Wilson terrifically. He also just outran the Seahawks wide receiver and picked the ball out of the air, taking the ball back inside the Seahawks’ territory. It would result in a field goal for the Cardinals to make the score 25-10 in the 3rd quarter.

Plays like this show why Mathieu is a defensive force and will be for years to come, as he’s only 23. What will the Honey Badger do next?
