Brock Osweiler will start at quarterback for the Denver Broncos on Sunday vs the Chicago Bears, as Peyton Manning will miss time due to plantar fasciitis
According to ESPN’s Jeff Legwold, Denver Broncos head coach Gary Kubiak will start fourth-year pro Brock Osweiler at quarterback against the Chicago Bears on Sunday, as starter Peyton Manning will miss time with plantar fasciitis.
Osweiler stepped in for Manning after he was benched in the Broncos’ loss to the Chiefs on Sunday. Sunday was only the 14th game Brock Osweiler appeared in for the Broncos since being drafted by the club in the second round of the 2012 NFL Draft out of Arizona State.
Sunday will be the first career start for the soon-to-be 25-year-old quarterback. November 22, the date of his first career NFL start, is also Brock Osweiler’s 25th birthday. With Manning unable to go on Sunday and former Northwestern Wildcat Trevor Siemian as the new backup quarterback in Denver, the Brock Osweiler Era may officially be underway in Denver.
In his four-year NFL career, Osweiler has completed 31 of 54 passes for 305 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception, playing in essentially garbage time situations as Manning’s primary backup. He will have to go against a 4-5 Chicago Bears team that boasts the NFL’s fourth best pass defense.
With both teams moving in opposite directions in recent weeks, Chicago does stand a chance at home against Osweiler and the vaunted Broncos defense. Keep in mind that the Bears handled the strong defense of the St. Louis Rams last week 37-13 on the road.
